The Last Dune is an ongoing photographic project based in Japan.
I return to the same landscape over many years,
photographing people who pass through it.
The project observes the quiet transformation of a place
and the presence of human beings within it.
私は長年にわたり同じ風景のなかで、そこに存在する人々を撮影しています。
このプロジェクトは、ある場所の静かな変容と、
その中に在る人間の存在を見つめることです。

2017–ongoing
The Last Dune is an ongoing photographic series based in Japan.
I return to the same small dune over years, photographing women standing within wind and sand.
The landscape is fragile.
The figures remain.
They do not perform.
They do not confront the viewer.
They simply stand — barefoot, exposed to wind, grounded in the shifting surface beneath them.
The project observes the quiet relationship between land and body,
between disappearance and presence.
As the dune slowly erodes,
each figure becomes a moment of resistance,
and at the same time, a trace that will one day vanish.

「The Last Dune」は、日本の小さな砂丘を舞台に継続している写真シリーズです。
私は長い時間をかけて同じ場所に通い、風と砂の中に立つ女性たちを撮影しています。
風景は脆く、
そこに立つ存在は静かにとどまります。
彼女たちは演じず、
観る者を挑発せず、
ただ裸足で立っています。足元では砂が絶えず形を変えています。
このプロジェクトは、
土地と身体の関係、
消えゆくものとそこに在るものの関係を静かに見つめています。
砂丘がゆっくりと侵食されていくなかで、
その姿は抗いであり、
同時に、いつか消えていく痕跡でもあります。
